"ARNOLD'S NO JESSE

"Arianna Huffington has snagged Jesse Ventura's people to run her maverick campaign for governor of California. We hope the news that she's hired Minnesotans Dean Barkley and Bill Hillsman -- who propelled Ventura to victory in 1998 -- will help bury the silly comparisons between Jesse Ventura and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sure, Jesse and Arnold are celebrity amateurs displacing political pros; both are social liberals and fiscal conservatives. And Ahnold does go on about serving -- the people -- with Venturian verve. But Ventura was a true outsider; Arnold is a Republican. Ventura had a reform program; Arnold so far has nothing. Ventura was used to live performance; Arnold has only performed on a movie set. To his credit, Ventura has denounced the recall as the equivalent of the losing team trying to replay the Super Bowl; he's also refused to endorse his friend Schwarzenegger, saying he never backs Ds or Rs."
