Whither Webcomics?

"It's my sincere belief that in ten years entire cottage industries will exist that do nothing but analyze the psychology behind horrible webcomics."

Whither Webcomics?

Each strip gets a little more morbid. I wonder how long Sandra can keep this up.

"Remember the kitty cat from a few weeks ago? Yeah." So, fresh dead animal blood in the backseat. Ew.

This comic needs a Sandra Watch Morbidness scale: 1 being as close to normal as this comic gets, to 10 being sick even for this comic.

I give this one a 6 on the SWM scale. Fresh blood of any kind on the backseat is icky.

And, masochist that I am to read them, even someone in the comments pointed out that the cat was alive three strips ago. It's nice to know I'm not the only one on the Sandra Watch.

Why do these people have vaguely East and South East Indian names with an Islamic feel to them?

Devil worshiping guy named Ibrafim. Hm.

"I figure* this is sometime during the morning, hence everyone in their pjs.". Yes, well, it's not AS IF anyone in this webcomic could be bothered to have a job to get to in the morning. I mean, why get dressed at all? (*She figures? Isn't this her webcomic? Wouldn't she, of all of us, know what's going on in her own webcomic? Hey, someone's got to ask these questions. It just happens to be me right now.)

"Collin's father apparently agrees with His Mind Kills. :)" Yet another phenomenally stupid, painfully obscure in-joke, see this strip if you have even the slightest curiosity as to what the fuck Sandra is babbling about.

"actually I was kind of thinking he (Collin's father) looked like Mikhail, but that's probably my thing for Mikhail talking..." Sometimes I just love the comments section, especially when they do my job for me. Obviously Sandra's running out of ideas for faces. My, what a surprise!

"Happy 50 Episodes. Good god is this comic fun to do. :) Thanks for coming along for the ride, folks." Oh, yes! Puss-filled eyes are always such a romp!

"I like Panel One, but notice the heavy shadow? That's what cranking out 15 pages of Utopia will do to you. "What? No heavy blacks? It's daytime? ::Shock:: (And before anyone asks about it, I can't tell you when it'll come out, as setting dates generally guarantees something will come up and I'll miss the deadline. I am *hoping* for late August, but frankly will be pleased if I get it up before December.)"

Ah! So there IS something to look forward to!

Many many thanks to B. for emailing me about my Sandraverse observations. Answering intelligent email is a joy because it usually leads to some insight I might not get to for, oh say, another week. Such as what I wrote to B that I will share with you, my readers, on the subject of why Sandra uses an LJ to explain her comic:

What Sandra does in her LJ is very strange and I'm not completely sure why she does it, or what she gets out of it. I think if she spent less time explaining her comic (i.e., trying to force her readers to think about it the way she wants them to think about it and not draw their own conclusions like thinking people) and more time actually making her comic, it might be a better comic. Or it might not; this intro section to "Friendly Hostility" sucks very much (for me) because I can't connect, let alone admire or even be amused by any of these characters. They're all cranky and/or creepy and not in any way, shape or form that I can discern endearing. What I can't figure out is why Sandra can't make better characters because I've seen her do it and do it fairly well in the past.

It is my mission to analyze this issue until I get bored with it.

Even though I hated the Harley character very much, I really liked her old comic "Boy Meets Boy" and I think Sandra let her fans and her ego ruin it for her. I think whatever was good about BMB is so buried under her overblown, but fragile ego and the people who keep her puffed up, we'll never see good work like mid to late BMB from her again.

This is a shame, except when it's amusing to point out on Whiter Webcomics.

And on a personal note: This is for my little LiveJournal Jockey fan, who likes collecting "pretty-sounding-yet-ineffectual barbs", may I suggest a visit to BuzzWhack, "the buzz word compliant dictionary"? It's full of all kinds of barbs you might enjoy. And in order to be ever more worthy of your devotion, I blush, but I must admit that I, personally, am responsible for the "Blogives" entry there and will be doing my level best to get "LiveJournal Jockey" into enough usage to quality for a BuzzWhack entry. I mean, I can't let my fans down, can I?

Next update in mid to late August, possibly early September, as August is prime yachting season. Adieu until then!
